Johann Jacob Gollmer Sr 1
The family orinally lived in the Imperial City of Ratesbon on the Danube in Bavaria. The 30 Years War caused his family to go to Wurtemburg. Original name = Golmar. He was born in Oberlennigen, district of Kirchheim. At 14, he became a cabinet maker. He was called into the army, but because of the shortness of the war, he never fought. He left Germany because of idealistic views. he came to the US in Nov, 1866, with his uncle John Walter (wife = Mary Wurster), and stayed with him in Potosi, Wisconsin, for a short time. He worked for Grindell in Platteville, Wisconsin, for 11 years. At one time they lived in Fulton, Mo. In 1878, he moved to Sellecks, west of Platteville. In 1903, he moved to Darliington. He moved many times, improving and selling land. He was converted at 38 and became a dedicated Christian. He was naturalized in Layfayette Co, 5 Mar 1907.
1. Immigrated in 1865. 2. Occupation: cabinetmaker. Johann married Margaret Rech, daughter of John Conrad Rech and Mary Emily Toulouse, on 17 Apr 1869 in Platteville, WI, Home of Bride's Parents. (Margaret Rech was born on 13 Nov 1851 in Potosi, WI, died on 23 Dec 1920 in Darlington, WI and was buried in Platteville, WI, Greenwood Cemetery.). The cause of her death was Cerebral hemorrhage/Arteriosclerosis.
