bullet  General Notes:

Enlisted for three years in the 7th Reg., Wis Vol Inf. Co . C. on August 13, 1861. The 7th Wis was part of the "Iron Brigade". It fought in the battles of Second Manasa, South Mo untain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and Gettysburg. He was captured by the Confederates near Hay Market, VA on Oct 19, 1863 and was a prisoner of war at Belle Isle, Florence, Savannah, Millen and Andersonville prisons. He was paroled at Wilmington, NC March 1, 1865. His release from Andersonville came "just in time to send home a wreck of the sturdy, ambitious, young volunteer who had so bravely gone forth. Although he never rrecovered his normal health, he recuperated enough to follow his quiet occupations."
