1. Obituary. GRACE MERCEDES QUINCY GWYNN
I was born on a farm in Platteville, Wisconsin on September 9, 1926. There were seven children in our family. I am number six. We attended the Free Methodist Church. I walked to country school 1/4 mile. After high school I worked at a restaurant as a waitress. The minister we had at that time wanted my parents to let me go to the Wessington Springs Jr. College in South Dakota.
After returning home from college I put my name in at a telephone company and worked there for six years. I decided to go to Colorado so had to quit. I met my husband Bill who was working in a restaurant. We were married in Denver on February 1, 1956 by the Free Methodist minister from there. I transferred to Salt Lake City. We moved back to the middle west as my parents weren't very well. We decide to go to Rockford, Illinois as my younger sister was living there. I started at the telephone company there in January 1957. From Rockford I transferred to Phoenix as my husband always wanted to see Phoenix. That was in August of 1957. 118 degrees in Globe. They accepted my transfer in September.
We had an apartment downtown so I sometimes attended the Nazarene Church. Then we moved to 13th Street so I didn't attend church at all as I didn't drive at that time.
We decided to buy our own home and didn't like the school area so decided on Glendale. My next door neighbors attended the Church of God on 9th Avenue & Fillmore where Ron Patty was music director. They invited me to go with them. Then they told me there was a Free Methodist family that lived across the alley from them. I went over to meet them and it was Carl and Ethel Walker. I rode to church with them for quite a while.
In December of 1963 my husband had surgery for colon cancer and was in the hospital for 21 days. After he was home a short time, we had to put hin in the VA hospital. He was given a temporary colostomy. After he recovered he worked at Bali Hi Motor Company and then at Del Webb Townhouse as maintenance Engineer. The cancer came back again and he was in St. Luke Hospital. This time it showed up in Lymph node on shoulders and it went to his lungs. He worked most of the time until March of 1977. Pastor Morriston came to call on him quite often and when he was in Maryvale Hospital Also, Chris Parker called on him several times. I feel that my husband is in heaven today. He passed away in June of 1977.
It was in January of 1984 that I made a definite commitment to the Lord. I thank Him for His mercy and grace.
Phil. 3:13-14 Forgetting that what is behind I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Going to church doesn't make you a christian anymore than driving into a garage makes you an automobile.
"In the Sweet Bye and Bye we shall meet on that beautiful shore." "It will be worth it all when we see Jesus." "What a day it will be when my Jesus I will see."
Grace married Myron Ralph Gwynn on 1 Feb 1956 in Denver, CO. (Myron Ralph Gwynn was born on 17 Feb 1923 and died in Jun 1977.)
