1. Miscellaneous. Henry's parents were Peter and Catherine Winter. His parents moved to Platteville, Grant County, WI. in 1854. He married Mary (Polly) Burkholder in Grant Co., WI. on August 28, 1861.
He was in the Civil War and was captured during the battle of Chicamanga. He was at Andersonville, GA. prison for 18 months. He was also at Libby prison in Richmond, VA.
After the James and Younger Gang robbed the bank in Northfield, WI, Winters was part of the posse that went after the two gangs. He was winged in the ear by Cole Younger.
In later years, Henry Winter would tell stories about his experiences.
They had Leora, Leonard, Henry and Olive.
Henry married.
Henry next married Mary Burkholder, daughter of David Burkholder and Catherine Klindings. (Mary Burkholder was born on 14 Nov 1844 and was buried in Sheldon, IA, East Lawn Cemetery.)
