Deceased was one among the few whose heart was in the right place. One who could suffer hardship and privation without a murmer. With a disposition free from jealosey and envy, one who rejoiced more in the prosperity and happiness of his neighbors, than in his own welfare. If all were such as he in heart, laws were not needed.

John married Elizabeth McFall, daughter of Malcolm McFall and Barbara Simons Buttles, on 23 Sep 1824 in Boardman Township, Trumbull County, OH. (Elizabeth McFall was born on 18 Jan 1803 in OH, died on 10 Feb 1887 in Harrison Township, Grant County, WI and was buried in Platteville, WI, Whig Cemetery.)
