1. Obituary: Grant County Herald, Lancaster, WI, 28 Mar 1935. George Wieland was born in Dubuque, Iowa, on May 21, 1864, and passed away at his home in Lancaster, Wis, on Saturday morning, March 23, 1935, at 4:30 a.m. after an illness of apparent short duration, at the age of 70 years, ten months and two days.
At the age of seven, he, together with his parents, moved on a farm in Potosi township, where he received his grade school e ducation. On Nov. 20, 1887, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Flitsch. This union was blessed with 9 children, five daughters, namely: Nellie, Mrs Lewis Bendorf, Florence, Mrs. Gleen Koehler, Madison, Esther, Mrs. Clarence Turner of Potosi, Bertha, Mrs Kenneth Tayor of Lancaster, and Nettie, Mrs Leonard Anderson of Madison, and four sons, Charles and Frank of Lancater, Ruben of Fennimore, and Edward who proceeded hin in death Feb. 14, 1919.
Mr. Wieldand was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church from his youth up, and he was an Elder of the church for almost thirty years. He was also for many years a member of the Modern Woodman lodge.
He was a man beloved by a wide cicle of friend. He possessed a fine moral Christian character. He wass aof a pleasant disposition, and always desirous to be helpful. He will be greatly missed by his family and relatives and all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, eight children and 27 grandchildren, one sister, Anna Payzant, of Schulyer, Nebr., and one brother, Joe, of Arcadia, Wisc. Three brothers proceeded him in death.
Funeral services were held at the home Monday afternoon at 1:30, and at 2 in the Presbyterian church. The Rev. H. C. Marks officiated. Internment was made in the Hurricane cemetery.
