LANCASTER, Wis. -- Evelyn E. Pierce, 81, of Lancaster, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Christ Lutheran Church, Lancaster, with the Rev. David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery, rural Lancaster. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Schwartz Funeral Home, Lancaster. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

She was born on Dec. 17, 1926, in South Lancaster Township, daughter of William and Opal (Hodoval) Wieland. She attended Boice Creek country school and graduated from Lancaster High School.

She married Robert Pierce on June 19, 1947. Together they farmed for 48 years on her grandfather, James Hodoval's farm. She also was employed with the Lancaster Care Center as an aide for 15 years and then cared for the elderly in their homes.

Evelyn loved to play bingo and enjoyed picking up hickory nuts and walnuts. She would crack them open and sell them every fall. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making chocolate chip cookies. She liked to go to the Dubuque Greyhound Park & Casino and dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving are four sons, Norbert (Arlene) Wieland, of Potosi, Donald (Virginia) Pierce, of Grundy Center, Iowa, Ronald (Marilyn) Pierce and Darwin (Betty) Pierce, both of Potosi; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; two step great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Deloris (Donald) Metcalf, of Cassville; two sisters-in-law, Arlene Wieland and Arlene (John) Roesch, all of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Claramae Scott, Hazel Runice and Marian Hirsch; two brothers, Virgil "Bud" Wieland and LeRoy Wielend; and a dearly loved grandson, Timothy Pierce

Evelyn married Robert Frederick Pierce, son of Leonard Leroy Pierce and Hannah Minnie Koeller, on 19 Jun 1945 in Lancaster, WI, Presbyterian Church. (Robert Frederick Pierce was born on 31 Oct 1923 in Potosi Township, WI and was buried in Hurricane, WI, Hurricane Cemetery.)
