1. Death. Donald and Donna were killed in a collison with a gasoline truck as they traveled to Hampton, IA, to delivery a cedar chest to one of Donna's nieces. At the time of the accident, visibility was less than 100 feet due to heavy fog.
2. Obituary. Ex-Arcadian, Wife Killed in Iowa Crash
Arcadia, Wis., A former Arcadia man and his wife were killed instantly in a collision with a truck loaded with butane gas about four miles east of Hampton, Iowa. David Wieland, 22, Waterloo, Iowa, called his uncle, Rudy Wieland, here at 12:35 p.m. Saturday to report the death of his father, Donald H. Wieland, 47, and stepmother, Donna Jean Wieland, 37. The Wielands were en route from their home at Waterloo to visit her sister at Storm Lake, Iowa. No details were received of the accident except that the Wielands were killed instantly. Mr. Wieland was a graduate of Arcadia High School and Stout State College, Menomonie. He first taught in Michigan, later at Sanborn, Iowa and the past 20 years has been industrial arts teacher at West High School, Waterloo. Survivors are: Two sons, Gary, 23, paratrooper in the Carolinas, and David, 22, at home, and one daughter, Carol, 19, a sophmore at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., all by Wieland's first marriage, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Wieland, Arcadia. Donald was an only child. The message received by Rudy Wieland was related to Donald's elderly parents by himself and the Rev. Walter Schultheiss of American Lutheran Church. Mrs. Wieland, who has been in and out of St. Joseph's Hospital after suffering a stroke a year ago, was taken to the hospital. Mr. Wieland went to Waterloo Sunday. His wife's brother, Rudolph Vesperman, Eau Claire, took him. The double funeral will be Tuesday 2 p.m. at Grace Methodist Church, Waterloo, with burial there. Arcadia people attending will be Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Wieland, their son, Lee and daughters, Mrs. Jerome Schollmeier. Mrs. Wieland was the former Donna Jean Sumner of Waterloo.
