Went west in 1851. Became a government surveyor in Oregon . Was still surveying in Nebraska , etc. after he returne d home to Wisconsin. Was treasurer of Harrison Twp 1863-67 , and 1869 to 1896. He was Harrison Twp representative t o the Board of County Supervisors 1876, 1882-1888, 1894-95 , and 1897-99/ He was the superintendent of Grant Co. poo r farm 188?- to 1892. He was exempted from the Civil War b ecause of his eyes.
