1. Obituary: Fennimore Times, Fennimore, WI, 10 Mar 1909. John J. Bendorf was born near Rockville, September 12, 1861, and there his youth and manhood were spent. Jan 26, 1886, he was united in marrige to Miss Alvena Koellar. He located at Hurricane, where they have sinnce resided.
Mr. Bendorf was a man of quiet, modest and unassuming disposition, cheerfully taking matters as they came and avoiding complaints about his troubles. His death was very sudden and unexpected to all. His family, friends and neighbors did not realize he was so near his home on high. He fell peacefully to sleep on Saturday night, Feb. 20, 1909, to wake no more on this earth. He was a good husband and a kind and loving father, a true friend and a good neighbor, honored and respected by all who knew him. He atended the German Presbyterian church at Hurricane, where his funeral was held Feb. 23. Services were conducted by Rev. Wm. C. Laube of Dubuque, Iowa, and his remains were followed to their resting place in Hurricane cemetery by a large concourse of friends, who thus testified of their sorrow and esteem for the deceased and his family.
He leaves to mourn his demise, in addition to his grief striken wife, two daughters and five sons, Laura, Rosa, Lewis, John Fred, Henry and little Roland, all at home, and three brothers, Barnett of Ne Hampton, iowa, William of Mason City, Iowa, and Joseph of Lancaster. The floral offerings were large and beautiful.
