1. Obituary: Fennimore Times, Fennimore, WI, 8 Mar 1944. Lewis W. Bendorf, 56, a farmer of North Lancaster, who had been sick for a long time, and a patient at the local hospoital at different times, died last (??) Friday, of heart complicationns. Funeral services wer eheld Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, from the Goete-Weedeu funeral home to the Presbyterian curch. Rev. Gordon ? officiated and interment was held at Hillside cemetery.

Mr. Bendorf was a life long resident of Grant county. He was born in Potosi township April 13, 1887. His parents were John Bendorf and Alvena Koehler. Hiw wife was the former Nellie Wieland and they were the parnts of ten children, ? sons and three daughters of

2. Miscellaneous: Memory from Calvin Bendorf. Calvin told me (Carol Bendorf) one day that people liked to call his father "Louie", although I'm not sure if that is how it would be spelled. Lewis always bought the Chicago Tribune, which Calvin described as a strong Republican paper, but said Lewis was more middle of the road politically.

Lewis married Nellie Isabelle Wieland, daughter of George August Wieland and Anne Christina Flitsch, on 19 Oct 1911 in Lancaster, WI. (Nellie Isabelle Wieland was born on 16 Aug 1893 in Potosi, WI, died on 7 Jan 1972 in Lancaster, WI and was buried on 9 Jan 1972 in Lancaster, WI, Hillside Cemetery.). The cause of her death was Cerebral arterio sclerosis.
