Ivanelle Lois Bendorf
1. Obituary. Ivanelle Kirkpatrick Foreman was born on April 12, 1929 in Lancaster, Wisconsin to Louis John Bendorf and Nellie Isabell Wieland. Ivanelle spent her childhood on her family's working dairy farm in Lancaster, learning of the virtue of family and the value of hard work. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1947, later marrying Charles Kirkpatrick on September 16, 1947. Between 1947 and 1964 they settled in Portland and Seattle. On December 5, 1951, Ivanelle gained a cherished title, not given by a university or sorority - the title was gained when a baby girl was placed in her arms. The title was "Mom" and the baby was Barbara Ann, followed by Pam. Her husband, Charles, was an active pastor and later, Administrator for the Free Methodist Church. They moved to the Free Methodist Church headquarters in Winona Lake, Indiana in 1964 when Charles became the Director of Foreign Missions. Ivanelle's gracious spirit was a perfect complement to her husband's ministry and they became a valued and visible team, beloved by the church. They traveled the world together, visiting mission fields and foreign sites. While home in Winona Lake, Ivanelle worked at the Free Methodist Church headquarters when the general church acquired the historical Westminster Hotel, she was instrumental in decorating and renovating, and turning into a Christian retreat center. Her gifts and grace in hospitality were noticed, and she became the manager of the Friendship House. Charles Kirkpatrick passed away in April of 1985. In 1988, Ivanelle moved back to Seattle, Washington and worked for Seattle Pacific University. Charles had shown her the joy of being truly loved. God gave Ivanelle the gift of love again, and in 1995 she married Melvin Foreman, a Sociology Professor at Seattle Pacific University. With him, she moved to Wenatchee, Washington where Mel lived to enjoy retirement, explore travel and spend time with family. Ivanelle was a very loving mother and a wonderful wife. She shared many interests, among them, family, travel, shopping, watercolor painting, home decor, visiting friends, attending and hosting parties. She was a wonderful cook and made every guest feel warmly welcomed. Ivanelle was a lady of class, style and creativity. She was very social and well-traveled, yet comfortable to be with and never pretentious. She lived her faith and loved her family and friends. Ivanelle married Charles David Kirkpatrick, son of Charles David Kirkpatrick and Ollie Eustice, on 16 Sep 1947 in Lancaster, WI, Methodist Church. (Charles David Kirkpatrick was born on 16 May 1920 in Rockford, IL, died on 12 Apr 1985 in Fort Wayne, IN and was buried in Warsaw, IN.)
