Leslie Milton Bendorf
1. Obituary: Herald Independent, 27 Jan 2000. Leslie M. Bendorf, age 83, of Granville, Ohio, formerly of Lancaster and Platteville, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000 at the Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio. He was born on April 2, 1916 near Lancaster, the son of Lewis and Nellie Wieland Bendorf. On June 22, 1937 he was married to Eleanor M. Quincy in Platteville. She died on Sept. 26, 1989. He married Nona Eleanor Smith on Nov. 16, 1991. She survives. Leslie was a World War II Army veteran, having served in Japan. For 30 years he was a letter carrier and rural carrier at the U.S. Post Office in Lancaster. He was a member of the Platteville Free Methodist Church for over 69 years, a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post 109 and a member of the William Polluck V.F.W. Post @2344, both of Lancaster. He is survived by his wife, Nona Eleanor Bendorf of Granville, Ohio three children, Paul Nancy Bendorf of Platteville, Lowell Pennysue Bendorf of Mountain Home, Ark., and Beth Marcy Schwenn of Columbus, Ohio 10 grandchildren 21 great grandchildren a stepson, Rodger Smith of Newark, Ohio a stepdaughter, Sharon Ross of Powell, Ohio four brothers, William Bendorf of Lancaster, Calvin Ruth Bendorf of Stitzer, Virgil Mary Bendorf of Stitzer, and Walter Kaye Bendorf of Mountain Home, Ark. three sisters, Esther Robert McFall of Platteville, Ivanelle Mel Foreman of Wenatchee, Wash., and Margaret Henry Oechele of Fennimore and five sisters in law, Ruth Bendorf of Platteville, Geraldine Bendorf of Fennimore, Alice Luther Marler of Orland Park, IL, Mercedes Gwynn of Phoenix, Ariz., and Georgia Earl Grenzow of Juda. Besides his parents and his first wife, he was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter three infant great grandchildren and two brothers, Lyle and Eldon Bendorf. Funeral services were held on Monday, Jan. 24 at 1 30 P.M. at the Platteville Free Methodist Church. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Memorials may be made to the Christian Endeavor United Methodist Church of Newark, Ohio, or to the Platteville Free Methodist Church. The Bendorf Funeral Home in Platteville served the family. Leslie married Eleanor Marian Quincy, daughter of George Daniel Quincy and Grace Mercedes Wilson, on 22 Jul 1937 in Platteville, WI, Free Methodist Church. (Eleanor Marian Quincy was born on 13 Oct 1918 in Platteville, WI, died on 26 Sep 1989 in Platteville, WI and was buried in Lancaster, WI, Hillside Cemetery.)
